Formed in 2003 from the ashes of several other bands, Lexi’s Curfew were an instant sensation in their hometown of Cairns, winning the Sea FM Rock Challenge with only their second gig.
Fronted by a nightclub DJ turned vocalist who, amongst other things, does backflips onstage, they garnered a huge local fanbase with their incendiary live shows.
Going under the name Shnexpean, they scored every worthwhile support slot going. The checklist is a who’s who of national acts (Machine Gun Fellatio, Spiderbait, 28 Days, ‘Gurge, Living End, The Butterfly Effect, NZ grinders Shihad, and the list goes on).
By early 2005 it was time to dream of bigger stages, and they flew south to Melbourne to play showcase gigs during Australian Music Week. One night at the Green Room they played five songs to a crowd that included ARIA producer of the year David Nicholas. The very next day, David began to pursue the band and eventually signed them to his own Jellyfish label.
Following a name change and the decision to leave Cairns for the bustling scene in Melbourne, Lexi’s began to score profile gigs and get media attention within days of their arrival.
2006 heralds the start of a new era for the band, with their debut release ready to go and plenty of gigging on the agenda.
